Renew .sln – Solution file in case of any problem

It’s a known problem, that the Visual Studio always tries to make you adapt it’s own solution tree architecture.

This is the way to make the Solution Tree as simple as possible.

Step by step:

1) The solution doesn’t work write. Make a backup of the Main Project Folder holding the project. Make sure that you have the last version in the VSS, and better that all the users will be off, although not necessary.

2). Delete the Main Project Folder holding the project. Now you don’t have even the folder where your project has been placed.

3). Open Visual Studio and add a new Blank Solution as pointed at the picture 1.

Picture 1

Pay attention , in this case we choose the Other Project Types category of Project Types , and a sub category of Visual Studio Solutions. Inside we have the Blank Solution, (to which we’ll connect later the already existing projects that we deleted previously).

Pay attention, the location in this case will be a folder above your Main Project Folder. The Name is in fact the name of the Main Project Folder that you are about to create. Solution name is by default closed, which is fine because we don’t want to create any unneeded sub folders.

In picture 2 you can see the system file folders after the creation of the Blank Solution as explained above.

4) Now we re-add the Existing Projects, but wait.. we’ve deleted them, right?

5)We are getting the Projects from the VSS.

6). On the Main Project Folder in VSS set the definitions for the get latest version .

7)We agree to create again the folders that we’ve deleted .

8)..But, we’re leaving the Soltuion File we’ve created .

9). Now go back to Visual Studio and re-add the projects by adding existing projects by .csproj files.

With Solution Folder you’ll have to sweat a bit but nothing to do about it.

10). Check out project dependencies per project.

11). Get Latest on the Project Solution – reassure that you have all the latest code.
